Movies and Friends
It’s Sunday night and your housemates (or floormates if you are in a dorm) have decided to have a movie night. Yippee right? Well, that depends, on what movie they have chosen. Oh, there is a poll. Let’s see what the options are. You open the link, or whatever type of poll the RA has created, only to find that the two options available are not only movies you have not seen, but neither of them hold any interest to you. So, what do you do? Just opt out, hang in your room, and wear you noise canceling headphones for a couple of hours or so? You are contemplating that idea when you remember that it’s your RA’s birthday today. You have been getting along with her quite well and she is a great person. That’s when you feel guilty about considering the possibility of opting out. Well now what? You look back at the options; they seem to glare at you as if to say ‘well, are you going to pick or not?’ You decide to give the options a chance, so you look them up online just to see what they are about. Neither are what you would choose for movie night; you prefer to binge watch that new show you discovered or an old favorite. Well, you decide to pick the slightly more interesting of the two and cast your vote accordingly. Later, when looking at the results, its not the one you chose that won. Oh well, it can’t be that bad, can it? When it’s time to watch the movie, you are settled cozily on the couch with three others, ready to begin the show. As it plays, you find that you are enjoying it. The plot has heart, humor, and friendship. There is a whole subplot of misunderstandings that cause confusion for both the main protagonist and the rest of the characters involved. It’s actually kind of funny. No, take that back, its hilarious! Your laughing with everyone else, quipping funny lines, pointing out the hidden jokes that only older people could catch. It’s a good ride. What makes it even better is that you are all together, even if you do not know each other that well. It feels like you are all becoming friends. You’re chilling, hanging, and laughing together as a family. It feels amazing to have such a good group to be with on movie night. It was never about the movie — it was about friendship and togetherness.
